Keith's latest news: February 2012
Extra Care Facilities coming to Eastwood
I am absolutely delighted that extra care facilities are coming to Eastwood. Although specific details about the development are yet to be confirmed, there are lots of possibilities on the horizon including a clinic, hairdressers and other activities for the site residents and also the wider community. I believe this development will be a huge benefit to Eastwood’s elderly and frail residents and I welcome the extra jobs that the site will create in the local area. If the scheme is as successful as the new youth centre, it is all for the better of Eastwood.
Youth Centre
The centre continues to go from strength to strength, with growing numbers of attendees.
Church Street resurfacing
Church Street has just been resurfaced, with added dipped kerbs and H-bars outside the doctor’s surgery to help with parking problems. Other locations for white lines to help with parking problems along Church Street are currently being investigated.
White lines near Brookhill Leys School
White lines have been added near Brookhill Leys School to help with parking problems around the school. H-bars have been installed at the top of Philip Avenue on a trial basis to help reduce inappropriate parking in the area, following complaints. If this proves successful, H-bars may be installed on other Eastwood streets to help with similar problems. My thanks to Eastwood Town Councillor Josie Forrest for campaigning for action on this issue.
Keith's latest Councillors' Divisional Fund awards
Each County Councillor has an annual fund of £10,000 to support worthy initiatives in their division. Councillors can use their CDF to identify projects, clubs, events and people that work hard in their local area but often lack access to resources.
Please contact Keith if you know of a deserving initiative in Eastwood that might be eligible for a grant.
Here are a few examples of funding Keith has recently provided:
- £400 to Eastwood Parish Council, for repairs to the bell tower
- £500 to Stepping Stones, to help finance new CCTV cameras
- £300 to 2nd Kimberley Scout Group, to help finance a trip to Sweden
- £156.76 to Literacy Volunteers, for new books and games
